Effect of Medication Administration Training on Midwives' Practices

Abstract

Background: Providing an optimal high quality of care to the women and their fetus, requires ensuring safety and harmless practice with upholding ethical standards. Aim: It was conducted to determine the effect of medication administration training on midwives' practice. Design: A pre/post-quasi-experimental research design was used in this study. Sample: A convenient sample of 92 midwives was utilized. Setting: postpartum unit at Maternity and Children Hospital in Tabuk Saudi Arabia.  Tools: two tools were used; 1) Midwives’ general characteristics, and 2) Midwives' Medication Administration Observational Checklist. Results: Dramatic enhancement in the total mean score of midwives’ practices concerning medication administration from 14.1% (pre-training) to 93.5% (post-training) with highly statistically significant differences.  Conclusion:  Providing medication administration training was highly effective in enhancing the midwifery practice. Recommendation: Applying a comprehensive training to improve the midwifes’ practices during medication administration
