Abstract
Comparative and regression analysis of the length–weight relationship of Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1785) was carried out over a six-month period from October 2020 to March 2021 in the Nile River at Bubungu, Eastern Region, Uganda, East Africa (0°23'31.92"N, 33°13'51.95"E). The slope value (b) estimated for O. niloticus of both sexes was found to be 3.4171. The regression equation derived for both sexes was estimated as:
Log W = 3.4171 + 0.1772 Log L
Despite the fact that O. niloticus was well represented in the wild fish collection, there was a significant statistical difference in their health and general well-being. The correlation coefficient was found to be significant (p < 0.01). The significant difference between sexes of the species based on the “F” value was observed at the 1% level. The b value differed from the ideal cube law value of “3,” as observed in other length–weight relationship (LWR) studies conducted in this region. The slope value was also compared with studies from Indo-Pacific regions.
