Abstract

The present paper made it possible to update the inventory of benthic malacofauna in the soft bottoms of the Gulf of Oran. Samples of macrobenthic fauna were collected and Molluscs were separated from other zoological groups. A total of 116 Molluscs were inventoried and identified to species level, including 13 orders, 20 families, 24 genera, and 29 species. Bivalvia was better represented than Gastropoda with 24 and 5 species, respectively.

The analyzed taxa highlighted the dominant and major species on the bottom of the study sites, including Nuculana commutata, which appeared as the most abundant species, followed by Nucula sulcata, representing 23.46% and 12.34% of the collected specimens, respectively. The present inventory indicates that the malacological fauna is less diversified compared to other studied zones along the Algerian coast.
